There is urgent need for concrete action to encourage more students to continue studying mathematics and
statistics past the compulsory years, usually Year 10. As a nation we are becoming less mathematically capable
at a time when the world is increasingly reliant on mathematics and statistics to solve complex logistical and
risk-related industrial, financial, environmental and social issues.
Economic progress for Australia relies on keeping these high-end niche capabilities.
