The “Promoting Mathematical Sciences & Careers” workshop was held on Tuesday 23rd May 2006. The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI), International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM), Australian Mathematical Society (AustMS), Statistical Society of Australia (SSA) and Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) were sponsors. Forty people participated in the workshop. AMSI Executive Officer, Jan Thomas, was the workshop convener and communication consultants Diana Wolfe and Cathy Sage assisted with facilitation and provided guidance throughout.

Other participants included representatives of the Federal Department of Education, Science and Training, university mathematics departments, the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, ABS, AMSI, ICE-EM, Questacon, Powerhouse Museum, the AustMS, Mathematical Association of Victoria, CSIRO, Office of the Chief Scientist, and the Victorian Museum. This report summarises the main points discussed by the participants, and provides a draft action plan for consideration.
